hello sg!
i have been more active on here of late, so i feel justified in updating my own journal!
i've finished semester one and am waiting for the exams. i crashed and burned in business law and micro economics, and i won't be allowed to sit these exams due to the volume of uncompleted work. i barely hung on in business statistics, not sure yet if i will be sitting that exam or not. i ruled in intro to music industry, top marks all the way and i will do brilliantly in the exam. reason being that this was the only relevant subject i was actually interested in. however, i've realised too late that i do actually need the boring business knowledge, not just to apply if i do start my own touring company, but even just to move forward in this degree. so my plan is to drop my study load to part-time for the next three semesters and do summer school if i'm eligible. that way, assuming i pass everything else, i should have the first year completed by the end of next year, including repeating my failed subjects. and cutting uni down to 2 days a week will give me the time and money to have more fun and not feel trapped, hooray! i feel terrible bitching about school when i should just shut up and be thankful for my opportunity at education, but i think i'm just a born quitter, so i'm constantly fighting the urge...
in other news, i'm booking a tour for an excellent queensland band called jack flash. they've never played in melbourne before but i met them on myspace and offered to make it happen. so they'll have a week of shows in december with locals catgut mary and heaps more rad celtic/pirate/folk punk bands. it will be a good test for me as a booking agent and promoter. i'm heading to queensland in september to see them play a few shows with catgut mary, my friends the ordinarys and my favourite band the black market - wil be fucking ace
i'll see both the ordinarys and the black market in melbourne in august though, as they're both touring and so are my mates topnovil from wollongong, nsw. speaking of wollongong, i'll be heading there with carl for a massive East Coast Loose Cannons Barbeque in july!!! there will be attendees from all the loose cannons bands, as well as the women of the crew (we've never agreed on a name for ourselves!). this will be the best party yet, even topping East Coast Loose Christmas last year
last weekend (a long weekend, mind you), i took sunday off work and drove with carl to geelong, about an hour west of melbourne. we were there for both a massive punk show carl's band were playing, and to attend for the first time the National Celtic Festival! both were awesome, dik's girlfriend kacey came, which always makes a gig 1000 times more fun! also getting shit-faced in geelong were my dear friends bittersweet kicks. they're a wicked rock'n'roll band now but back in the day, they were among the first punk friends i had
and the festival was off-tap! so many performers, such a breezy atmosphere, i intend to return every year with my whole family - blood AND friendship!
so yeah! work is the same as always, save for our beautiful new barista elizabeth who is so much like me only cooler, and i love her to death
we are seeing against me! this weekend, can't wait!
