On the way to work today I saw a racoon that had just been hit by a car. His back paws were paralyzed. There was another one that ran away, but he was just shuffling along. I avoided him. I'm a little traumatized by all of this.

I learned a few important lessons this weekend:

1. At La Paloma Gelateria & Cafe you can not only get the best gelato in town, you can also meet Eric the Lawyer. Is he a lawyer? Is he crazy? No one knows!--but he sure was interested in photogrrl, and his family (from which he extracated himself in order to join our conversation) sure was apologetic for him. I found him endearing.

2. Security detail is not all it's cracked up to be. Apparently you not only have to check whether the door is locked, you also have to wash the dishes. You'd think that was Health & Safety's jurisdiction, but no. Also, you have to learn to take punches, are not allowed to get a spy scope, and you can't shoot people. This may not be true in all places, but it certainly is the case in this outfit. My chief made me eat rotten food and then called me a garbage picker. That's it. I'm out.

3. "Shaking on it" often leads to trouble. Watch out.

4. I make the best cobbler/crumble ever.

5. Love is scary.

1. Sometimes all you can do is smile and nod.

2. Did you at least get a badge and a hat?

3. duck.

4. Great. Now I'm starving, and I don't.

5. Love is scary. Like the things under your bed.

Wait. You ate what? Oh man.
What?
Wait a minute ...
Yeah, can I call you back in like 20 miutes? No, I swear I will.
Yeah, the human wants me to go get a stick or something ...

Taking punches is easy -- a slight movement usually suffices. It is the embarrassment of having moved too slowly that is more difficult to deal with.
