i changed my hair!
jacob said it made me look younger, was i wearing makeup? i got all excited, especially as i wasn't, and then remembered i was 21 and felt depressed. but i like my hair either way.
in other news, i got yelled at on the street yesterday for no reason! i was walking down broadway by my house in portland, and these 2 young black kids got off the bus. i looked up from my book and smiled at them, and this kid is like "what the fuck are you looking at?" and keeps yelling and is all i dunno....it was just fucked up. there is a lot of racial tension in north east portland as it becomes more and more gentrified. it was just weird. writing it down it seems really trite, but i was actually kind of hurt and angry. i think knowing about yr background is really cool; i am currently trying to collect at least one mythology volume from every country of my origin. however, acting like you personally suffered all the injustices of yr people/s is silly. i get that it's taboo or whatever to say that in the context of black/white relations, but every one of my peoples has a long history of suffering. this is because everybody does. you can learn and be a better person, or you can yell "you deserve the guillotine, you be-wigged, cake eating whore!" every time you see a rich person (if you are french (for example)).
just a thought.
also, i got terrariums! j. gave them to me! they are mushroom-shaped. one has a fern, and the other has beautiful pink leafy plant called a polka-dot plant! AHHH! they please me so much. i have them set up so they are the first thing i see in the morning, provided i sleep the right way. it's not fool-proof, but it still makes me happy.
