It has been a long couple weeks!

The course I taught a couple weeks ago went really well! It certainly wasn't perfect, being the first time I had used the presentations, which I was still finishing the night before I started (and tweaked every night during). Given that it went better than I deserved, really. Fortunately it was an academic/research group, primarily biologists. They were very laid back and by nature see things as a process, so didn't seem to mind when I edited the presentation as we discovered rough edges here and there. At the end, everyone seemed really happy. I put up a survey page so hopefully I'll have some feedback soon.

Unfortunately the vacation we had planned to continue up in ME after the class was cut short. Kathryn's godmother (her great-aunt) passed away while I was teaching, so as soon as I was done we had to drive back to Boston and fly out the next day to New Orleans for the funeral. She was 93 and had been in relatively good health and still sharp until the last few months. Her kidneys started to fail and she wanted no part of spending a few more years hooked up to a dialisis machine; a sentiment I certainly can sympathize with. So, as these things go, it was not to bad. Death is a fact of life, and she lived a very good life, on her own terms, and passed content with herself. We should all do so well!
