"And I Hate modern music"
Pete Shelley sang that lines in The Buzzcocks "16" and ten years after turning sixteen, I still relate to that line well. I was at the record store this weekend, picked up Angel Witch's first album, The new Fastbacks rarities album, Kyuss Blues For The Red Sun, and Warren Zevon's Sentimental Hygeine (and I'm probably the only person in the world buying all those albums at once) I also picked up Q Magazines 1010 Songs you must have issue, basically evrything you should have on your I-pod. Dave Grohl contributed and Dave and I have similar taste, so I was curious about what he had to say. Anyway, they split it up by genre and Dave got metal. I don't have all the songs Dave chose but all the ones I have are great so Dave did good. Then they had Travis from Blink 182 doing punk. You know i use to think maybe Travis was the cool guy in that band, i mean he was the only guy that looked likehe should be in a punk band but his list sucked. He had three gangsta rap songs, two hairband songs,One ska song, and a song from his own band (though thankfully the Transplants, not Blink 182). I'm not saying they're bad songs , but come on it was supposed to be a punk list. I don't know, it was just a really weak list. No Ramones, No Iggy, No Damned, no Black Flag, The Transplant's song is really bad just because Dave Grohl didn't put any of his bands on his list, and if you can argue that Ice Cube or Motley Crue are punk, you can argue Nirvana was metal. My point is they just should have interviewed someone from a good band who could have stayed on topic, maybe one of the guys from the Briefs or something. If you haven't checked out The Briefs yet, you must do so now. There is nothing that is uncool about that band.Great live, great records, great lyrics. That's enough ranting for now.Go buy a Briefs album and all the ones I did yesterday, You'll be glad you did.
