Okay, I have to update while I still have this weird-ass dream fresh on my mind....
In this dream, I am taking Gina (and my iguana Jinx, of course) home to meet my parents.
(Which is the first clue that this is a dream sequence. Granted, my parents are pretty open-minded for white conservative Southern Baptists in their early 70s. I've dated Hispanics, Asians, Jews, and even an Iranian once, and they were fine with all of them. But...how should I put this? If there's a chance that my ancestors owned hers, then Houston, we have a problem. Plus, they've never been particularly fond of my iguanas, either.)
So we get to Barnwell. And lo and behold, Yuliya is living there with my parents, and apparently has been for a while.
(Second clue this is a dream sequence. What are the odds that your ex-girlfriend could be living with your parents in real life, and have everyone involved be okay with the situation?)
But anyways, back to the dream. I leave Jinx in the house and start showing Gina around my back yard. We find my old iguana Bud sitting on the fence separating our yard from our neighbour's.
(Bud, it should be noted here, was an absolutely beautiful iguana. He was large, healthy, mostly orange in colour, and sociable around people...but had a hell of a mean streak when it came to other iguanas. He used to attack Jinx viciously on a pretty regular basis when I kept them together. Seeing as I had neither the space or the resources to maintain two separate iguana enclosures, I wound up giving Bud away to a guy in Williston who owned a farm and had kept iguanas before.)
So I go up to Bud and pet him on his head. He seems genuinely happy to see me (you know, by iguana standards, at least.) I check him out and he seems to still be healthy and happy, so I leave him there on the fence and go on about my business.
Gina has to go in the house for some reason. She goes in and a short time later Yuliya comes out to join me. I haven't seen her for a while, so we walk around to the front yard to catch up with each other.
At which point she drops a bombshell: she's sorry things ended the way they did, she realizes that breaking up with me was a huge mistake, she misses me terribly, and she wants more than anything for us to get back together. Then she grabs me and starts kissing me. (It's a damn good kiss, too...Yuliya was never deficient in that department.) I don't want to stop, but now I'm getting paranoid that Gina is going to look out the window any minute and see us out there. So I talk Yuliya into going into the neighbour's back yard so we can keep "talking."
(Again, a note of explanation...our neighbour has a HUGE fenced-in back yard. It's full of trees, bushes, scuppernong vines, various storage sheds, and a very steep hill on the back side of the property...lots of fun places to go where no one from either house can see you. I used to have a LOT of fun in my neighbour's yard when I was growing up.
)
But in this "dream world", all the bushes and vines are gone and the rest of the yard is in disrepair. We keep checking all my old hiding places in the yard, and they're all either gone or full of spiders, making them useless for what I'm trying to do.
But then I check inside the old pump house. Lo and behold, my original iguana Ziggy is hiding in there.
(Ziggy, I must say, was the coolest lizard I ever owned. Ziggy was this cool iridescent green-and-blue color and had the most easygoing attitude of any iguana the world has ever seen. He disappeared in early 2001 under rather mysterious circumstances...I was never quite sure if he ran away, got killed, got lost somewhere, or was simply stolen...it happened when I wasn't at home. Regardless, I still miss that lizard. I hope he's happy wherever he is...)
Anyways, I'm overjoyed to have found Ziggy, even if he isn't in the best of shape. He's malnourished, sick, and missing half his tail, but at least he's still alive. So I grab him and Yuliya and I run back to my house.
When I get in the house, Mom, Dad, and Gina are sitting in the living room talking. (Strange, I think...the "living room" is one of the two rooms in the house that we NEVER USE.) I tell my parents who I found in the neighbour's yard, and they don't seem the least bit surprised. At which point, I get a little irritated with them...they knew where my iguana was all along and had never bothered to tell me?
I don't worry about it long, though...I've got my long-lost friend Ziggy to attend to. So Yuliya and I leave Gina and my parents in the living room and go into the kitchen to start looking for something to feed Ziggy. At this point I hear Bud start scratching at the back door, wanting to be let back in. Yuliya and I catch each other's eye, exchanging that "What do we do now?" look....
At which point I wake up.
