Greetings from Barnwell, home of...umm...hold on, give me a second, I know this...

Oh, yeah, I remember now: this LLAMA!!! Yay!

Yes, it's my Spring Break. You'll excuse my lack of enthusiasm, though...as always, rather than getting to do anything FUN, I had the "privilege" of spending a large part of my tax check on gasoline, just so I could drive back to this redneck hellhole, get bored senseless and nagged to death, and spend the remainder of my break hiding in my room to avoid any further confrontation.

Well, at least it's ending early. Tomorrow, the South Carolina Democratic Party will host its 1st Annual Campaign University at the Clarendon Town House Hotel in Columbia , SC. This event is designed to bring together elected officials, potential candidates, and county party leaders to learn and to share how to run and win as a South Carolina Democrat.

It's good to be well-connected...the Spartanburg County Democratic Party paid for me to go. So, either the Party has high hopes for me or the talent pool here in South Carolina has gotten really shallow.

According to the Party website:

"South Carolina Democrats are starting now to recruit and work with candidates for the upcoming elections," stated Chairman Joe Erwin. "This training is ideal for people who are already leaders in their churches, schools and communities, who share the Democratic ideals of service, opportunity for all, fiscal responsibility and government accountability. We've heard from countless individuals who recognize that now may be the time for them to take that leadership a step further and consider a run for public office. They believe South Carolina can be a better place, and it's our job to help them."

...

The training will feature a number of South Carolina political professionals including David Agnew, partner with CivicSquare, LLC and former Executive Assistant to Charleston Mayor Joe Riley; Carey Crantford, founder and principal with Crantford & Associates; Jaime Harrison, Legislative Assistant to U.S. Representative Jim Clyburn; and Chuck Jones, direct mail consultant for national campaigns. The training will also bring in many national political specialists whove worked in South Carolina including Jenny Backus, communications consultant and principal of Backus Consulting; Donnie Fowler, South Carolina native and campaign consultant in 14 states; Nick Gerten and Jerry Samaria, fundraising specialists with The Meyers Group, and Paul Tewes, political consultant and former political director of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.

The training will conclude with a panel discussion of current South Carolina elected Democrats from the municipal to the legislative levels, followed by a networking reception with the days speakers.

Yes, I'm a dork. But hey, I'm not even out of college yet and I'm already being recruited, so the way I see it, I'm already one step ahead of the game. biggrin
