Today was a good day. My Research Methods in Political Science class got cancelled, and as I was heading back to the apartment I ran into Yuliya and her mom. I only got to visit with them during the five minutes or so before their next class started, but it was still good to see them again. It's been too long!
Richard's response to this news was a predictable "Oh, God. Now I get to hear about Yuliya for the next three weeks." He even went so far as to predict that I'd make a journal entry about the incident before the night was over.
Well, I showed him. I waited until 1:51 AM to write this.
Try as I might, I don't know that I'll ever fully "get over" Ms. Guseva. I know we're just friends now. I know that she wants/needs more from a relationship than I'm able to give. And I'm okay with that...we were friends long before we were anything else, and God willing we can remain so for many years to come.
And yet...
I don't know. Maybe I just miss her. Last semester, we ate lunch together at least twice a week and would get together on a fairly regular basis outside of school too. Which was great, since she's one of the most intriguing people it's ever been my good fortune to get to know. We had a lot of fun together and understood each other on a far deeper level than most people ever experience.
But now...things are different. I've seen her a grand total of twice since the Christmas Break fiasco, mostly because she's just too busy with classes, internships, and her immigration and family nonsense to really have much time for anything else. And it's sad...I can deal with losing a girlfriend, but I'm also losing touch with one of my best friends, and it hurts.
Which explains why that little dose o' Yuliya went so far today. Getting to see her happy again makes my world just a little bit brighter.
...and here endeth the Yuliya post. Maybe now my poor roommate Richard can have a Yuliya-comment-free day for the rest of Thursday. We'll see.
