WAY TO GO, LEFTY!
I know, I know...I'm no golfer. I've never golfed in my life (although I can putt-putt with the best of them!) I don't even normally like watching golf on TV. But...well, when you live just 40-something miles from Augusta, you can't help but get caught up in the pomp and pageantry of the Masters.
Leaving home didn't help, either...I just wound up living on Hilton Head Island, home of the MCI/Worldcom/Hilton Head Island (depending on the year and the corporate accounting scandal) Classic: The Heritage of Golf. I remember one year, I had a friend who was a agent for Sea Pines Realty who just so happened to have the keys to a house for sale right off the 17th fairway. So we, of course, got a cooler of beer, invited over some friends, and spent an entire afternoon sitting on the back deck watching the golf pros go by. It was a blast!
It also didn't help that my friend Vi Tang wound up dating Mark Calcavecchia after one of those tournaments....
So anyways, I've got to admit, I got really excited watching the final round of the Masters this year. What a finish, huh? And nobody deserved that green jacket more than Phil. Number one on the money list, eighth in the world rankings, and yet had never won a major tournament before today. And a heck of a nice guy too...I was glad to see him finally get that monkey off his back.
And besides, I just love to see a fellow southpaw succeed.
