So, I had an interview with the phone-bank people yesterday in North Carolina. I feel like it went really well. I should know in "a week or two" (according to the lady from human resources that interviewed me) whether or not I've got anything. It doesn't pay all that great, but it does come with a pretty good benefits package, so if I'm offered the job, I will in all likelihood take it. Even if that DOES require me to leave the Palmetto State once again...

In the meantime, I'm killing time by visiting with some of my old friends in Spartanburg. I haven't seen them since January, so it's good to catch up.

In other news: A possible GREAT development?

Actual e-mail exchange:

April 11:

Dear Mr. [Gubernatorial Candidate]:

It was a pleasure meeting you at last week's "Sanfordville" event at Finlay Park. Like you, I am ready to turn the page on the Sanford era, and I am prepared to help you accomplish that goal any way I can.

To that end, I am enclosing my resume for your consideration. As you can see, I have extensive experience organizing grassroots campaigns and building coalitions, skills that I would be honored to put to work for you.

I first became involved in politics at the grassroots level at age of 12. Since then, I have had numerous opportunities to work directly with the public, build relationships, recruit new party members and activists, plan events, and persuade voters. This experience is not limited to South Carolina, either. In the 2007-2008 election cycle, I expanded my horizons by working on campaigns in Iowa, New Mexico, and Georgia. My positive attitude and strong work ethic have served me well in this area and have resulted in the
creation of many productive relationships with local activists and county chairs. I am confident that my experience, professionalism, and ability to quickly learn and adapt to situations would make me an
excellent asset to your campaign.

In my years of working as an activist and organizer, I have grown quite adept at dealing directly with the public, and I would be honored to have the opportunity to work for you. Please feel free to contact me anytime if you have any further questions. I can be reached by e-mail at this address or by phone at [my numbers.]

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

[GiddyIguana]

Thanks so much [GiddyIguana]. I really appreciate your interest. As you can imagine, right now we are focused on fundraising so that we can get our ground game up this fall. I will keep your resume in my file and hope you will make contact with us again in late summer to see what opportunities have developed. Best wishes, it's time to change this state for sure.

You know, after all the generic rejection letters of the last few months, it's nice to finally get a personal e-mail--especially one that sounds as optimistic as this one. No "Dear Candidate:", no form letter from some anonymous staffer...an actual, honest-to-God letter from an actual, honest-to-God Gubernatorial candidate! This could be big. I'll keep you posted...

ARRR!!! biggrin
