Thank you to all of you who left comments about my last journal entry. Good to know that we all share similar views.

Remember the movie La Bamba when Ritchie's brother just found out about his death. He was running through a field or something grieving over the death of his beloved brother. The song they picked was dead nuts, Sleep Walk by Santo and Johnny. What a great song.

Saturday night when I was trying to fall asleep my iPod was playing. One of the songs that came on was Maybe by the Chantels recorded in 1958. They are a little doo wop female group from New York City. They got their start singing in the locker room after Arlene Smith (lead singer) played in basketball games. They were really the first of the female doo wop groups to break on the national scene. They were unique because they wrote the words and most of the music to their songs. The song Maybe just had a piano, vocals and a hint of a snare drum. What appeals to me the most about the song is how Arlene's voice pierces you. She is now a teacher in the Bronx. If you like Maybe check out He's Gone, Every Night I Pray, I Love You So and Look Into My Eyes. Also after Arelene left for a solo career Richard Barrett took over lead vocals and cut the song Come Softly Darling.

Just a bit of interesting early rock-n-roll history. Maybe I need to start writing about these forgotten artist more often. Who knows. Come up with a name for these fact filled writings and I will. smile

I love that song in the movie. That is infact one of my most favorite movies. The ending always makes me cry when Bob yells "RITCHIE"!
