I see you're also a friend of Sinovia's...why are you interested in the Chinese cultural revolution? It's such an annoying period of chinese history - I have friends who remember it vividly from the front lines.

I'm much more interested in the Taiping Tianguo rebellion...but of course that might just be a certain love of a freaky disaster that I have...

I really wish I was there, but family issues have been coming up.

My brother-in-law has been transferring jobs and needed some help from us. He's back at work now, so things are back to normal for the time being.

Aside from one lunch with Contemptible, LL, Gailstorm, and Twigtech, a couple weeks back, I haven't seen anyone from SG in ages.

Moving to Seattle might be "risky" or "irrational" but it certainly isn't "not smart". It is a very cool place and lots of cool people live here. I know becaue I grew up here (did not fuly appreciate the coolness factor then), lived in Cali for a while (for the work thing) and just moved back a couple years ago (new perspective on Seattle). And besides all that summers here are totally awesome! TOTALLY!

One word of caution is that Seattle people can sometimes be hard to get to know at first--a friend refers to it as a "Scando-Japanese" phenomenon. That said, once you get to know people you find they are totally real and committed to making the world a better place--evidenced by the fact Washington is a blue state.

There is an amazing new Rem Koolhaus library here, a new sculpture park is being built on the waterfront and the art museum is expanding--so the city is on the move culturaly and creatively!

Anyway, hope your move goes well. Do you know what part of the city you want to live in? I recommend checking out Fremont--a groovy, fun, ecclectic, interesting neighborhood and a nexus for creative people.
