Five-Minute fiction - 13:15-13:20

The air was choked with dust as the gantry collapsed behind him. Dard grimaced at the racket the factorys superstructure made as it collapsed in on itself. The hiss, and grating of steel on steel filled the air sending all manner of creatures airborne, not all of them the common pigeons that roosted in the ruins of the city. Rats scurried out from amongst the wreckage, their tails whipping, their noses twitching as they tried to find their way out, blinded by the dust.

Dard froze, waiting as the carpet of living rats flowed in, around, and over his boots. He wasnt a fan of the rats in general, and the creatures that inhabited the city were abominable mutations created in the aftermath of the cataclysm and seemingly had no respect for creatures other than themselves. They were very much like the humans of the last generation when push came to shove. But he preferred to leave things alone. Karma et all.

The furry carpet sped by disappearing into the haze, the rats already on route to their new home somewhere else amongst the ruins of a forgotten age. Dard beat at the dust that covered his clothes sending up great clouds to mingle with the traces that still hung in the air. It seemed an almost futile gesture given the grime already
