Five-Minute fiction - 23:33-23:38
The Tick-Tocks legs stiffened and Grim knew what was coming next. He bounded aside, rolling as the thing leapt through the window. Razor sharp claws sliced through the air and Grim shuddered to think of what those wicked things could have done to him, and what they had probably done to Mullark.
The Tick-Tock was larger than Grim had expected. It filled much of the corridors height, but moved so easily for what must surely have been a heavy weight. It turned, metal eyes glinting, to face where Grim had come up from the roll. He swallowed hard, his throat constricting and releasing under the things gaze. Its head ticked to one side and Grim could feel the weight of its eyes on him. He watched as one of its feet slid forward, easily, almost casually.
He never gave it the chance. Grim sprang backward and ran, but too late did he realize he was on the wrong side of the thing. The stairs in front of him led up, up toward the roof of the tower. Not caring he sprinted on. He felt the tower tremble as the Tick-Tock gave chase, he heard the clinking and scraping of steel on stone but he did not look back.
