"Doctor, would an ape make a human doll, that talks?" - George Taylor
Are you prepared to see a half man and a half chimp? With the continuous growth of science and technology, mixing chimpanzees with humans is an experiment that isn't farfetched. Today, a leading scientist has warned the world of a possible birth of new species that can be called a humanzee. Humanzee is derived from breeding humans in chimpanzees. This hybrid is said to become legal in the near future.
A Scottish scientist, Dr. Calum Mackellar, warns us that the draft of the new bill concerning human fertilization and embryology doesn't prevent scientists from creating the first humanzee. Creating this kind of hybrid could be legal in the not so far future if the Scottish council doesn't do anything about it. The draft for the upcoming bill has become controversial because it failed to address the limitations of creating hybrids. So if a scientist would experiment on inseminating a female chimpanzee with a human sperm, it would be legal. The bill has only specified that the placement of an animal sperm into a woman is prohibited. But the reverse isn't. Dr. Mackellar worries that if it is not banned, then scientists could probably try it as soon as the new bill is passed.
"A planet where apes evolved from men?" - George Taylor
So what can possibly be wrong if we mix humans with chimps? It is only the fact that we dont really know what would result out of it. It is one thing to cross other animals like sheep and goats, but its another to cross another animal with humans who follow certain ethics. Obviously, it wouldn't be rattling enough if we cross frogs and animals simply because it wouldn't probably be possible or in case it was, it won't go that far. However, crossing chimps and humans who are closely related will most likely bear a hybrid. If that happens, how would the world react to it? Would you consider it to be an animal or a human? What rights do you think it should have? What if it was self-aware, then that is a bigger dilemma the world will have to face.
