Okay, so I admit I've been pretty lax with the blog lately. It's actually pretty difficult to come up with something interesting to say everyday...and I'm definitely one for keeping quiet unless you have something interesting to say. (Of course, what's interesting to me isn't always interesting to other people.) I should also point out that I'm easily distracted...even when the website has lots of naked women.

As hard as writing a blog every day (or almost every day...or most days..ok...some days) can be, there are jobs more difficult. As one example, I'd like to call attention to a new style of tv commercial TBS is trying out. It looks like a stand up bit, but its actually a commercial for a specific product. I haven't decided whether this is a clever way to get around the traditional boring model of advertising or just really silly.

At any rate, it occurs to me how difficult this must be for the comedian. Being a stand-up comedian can't be the easiest job under the best circumstances. You have to constantly come up with material, test it out and refine it. There's all this pressure to make the audience laugh, and in most cases it's in a location serving alcoholic beverages. If the jokes fall flat you get only silence - or worse, heckling.

Now on top of that, let's say you have to come up with material about a company. Tonight's comedian had to come up with bits on Staples and Dave and Busters. Those products aren't even related - or very funny if you ask me. How many jokes do you know start out: "So a priest and a rabbi walk into a Staples..." At any rate, the result was not very funny and didn't make me any more likely to shop at Staples or visit Dave & Buster's tomorrow.

But it did make writing a blog seem a little easier...

Random lists always make good blogs. 5 flavours in Thai food I enjoy, top 7 diasporas, headlines this week that made me giggle... Filler, yes, but then oddly soothing too...

That could definitely work...best three south american writers, 10 positive things about the black plague, five things on my desk...and you're right, it is oddly soothing.
