Well, fuck.

I've just been informed that, due to budget cuts, I will *not* be getting funding as a teaching associate next year (be nice if they told me this *before* assigning me a class). Which means that my funding ends on May 1.

Anyone out there want to hire a philosopher?

Dude I'm not claiming an obligation on the part of the owners to put those sets up and I realize you probably have not the slightest interest in whether or not there are naked guys on this site but you have to concede that it would be fucking cool if a photographer and model could create something that did not come out looking "goofy" and furthermore what the hell justified the totally fucking fascist responses on the part of those people? You've got to at least see something disturbing about that SuiGirl telling me that by making a suggestion I was tarnishing the artistic nature of the site and missy.
mathmaddicts:
oh and I'm sorry 'bout the carreer set back man. That fuckin hurts.

OK, enough of the serious stuff.

First of all, this is my new favorite website:

CRS Reports From the Department of State

I *so* want to work for those guys. I want to be a research badass in a duster coat and mirrorshades, two-fisting books as my enemies go down in a hail of information. I wonder if they take philosophers with delusions of grandeur...

I just interviewed with the Fund for Public Interest research. They invited me to a second round of interviews in DC on the 21st. Yup, I'm coming your way.

Politicians, lock up your daughters.
polisciguy:
Hey thanks for replying. Your right that I am basically libertatian, which in practical and professinal reason makes me a "maverick" Republican (I prefer the term "bull-moose").

And for articles to post, it can be on whatever moves you. I'm looking to do alot of differnet topics and have a lot of different points of view. Since your apply to state department, I assume you know a thing or two about IR that you might want to talk about. Or maybe a comparison between Canadian and US politics, since you lived in Montreal.

I'm not looking for anything longer than 5 pages, all I ask is that you cite a few refrences.

Another installment in the ongoing saga of sex, iron, and politics...

I know, but it makes my life sound so much more interesting! And this entry contains all three!

To wit: politics

So, I saw Bush on Meet the Press this morning. What a waste of Tim Russert's time.

Here's my question. *I* thought Saddam had WMD before the war. Even the most lefty folks...

I'm impressed with your comments and journals. Wish we had more people like you on our side of the isle.

Anyhoo, I was wondereing if your be interested in writing a short paper or op-ed for an on-line politics and policy website that I will be launching soon? I'd appreciate it.

The epitaph of the Dean movement, and the content of our "I told you so" in December?

"Some Democrats cheated and looked into their hearts, where they found Howard Dean. But he was so appealing that he scared them. This is no moment to vote for a guy just because he inspires you, they thought. If he inspires me, there must be something wrong with...

From the same article:

I only care about one thing," they all say. "Which of these guys can beat Bush?" Secretly, they believe none of them can, which makes the amateur pragmatism especially poignant.

That's just depressing. There are two types of campaigns in America, the type that plays to the swing voters in the center a la Clinton, and the type that tries to bring out more of the hardcore voters on your side, which seems to be what Dean was about.

If Kerry can appeal to the center (perhaps a big if) and he picks Dean as his #2 maybe we can have it both ways? Then again maybe not.

OK, let me be macho for a moment.

I like leg days at the gym. The first reason is that blasting my quads is a *really* good excuse for taking the day off cardio. I hate cardio, but without it I balloon up to my borderline-obese natural weight, so I bear my cross with magnanimity. Hey, I could be a 14 year old in Liberia...

I went to the SGB last night and, frankly, enjoyed it more than I'd expected to.

Originally, the plan had been for me and my girlfriend (I hate referring to her in the abstract, but she's got no acct on here - no internet access at home, and the MAN keeps her down when she's on campus - and giving her real name when I...

I am a putz.

Despite the piercings and tattoos, blood test needles still wig me out. (And I'm a bad person - I've chickened out every time I've gone to donate blood)

The irony of this is not lost on perceptive lab technicians.

I stole this from MissMisha, who stole it from Toxicboy, who... well, I don't know. I'm just bored.

- Straight/gay/bi? ........ Straight but not narrow? I'm in principle open to being with a guy, and met a few guys that made me go 'hmm,' but never been at the right place at the right time.
- Single? .......... Engaged, but in a somewhat flexible arrangement....

I'm back from the front lines in NH (Dover, Rochester, and Salem).

No predictions, but some reflections.

OK, one prediction.

I've never lived in a state where anyone really cared about how I voted, so I've only ever really been exposed to strategic campaigning. That is, I get the issues, I get the ads, I listen or don't listen, research or don't research as I...

of course, it isn't a reflection on me at all...competition is indeed fierce

hey, how are doing?
zerogirl:
I pray every day that Kerry does not get the nomination.
I hope that Dean gets it. I think people are a little intimidated by him right now, by his willingness to display an actual personality (god forbid, REAL personality in a politician whatever ) but I think that he could actually do something good for the country. I think he and Edwards have the most potential to turn the mood of this country around. The rest of them make me want to fall asleep.
And I want to see more from Clark, but he has just been so quiet. I think crazybob is right...he could balance out a lot of the areas that Dean is less experienced in. If they get it, it could be a good time up in America. Let's hope....

Woot! Scratch that last journal entry - we've come up with a fiendshly complex plan that should get me back to DC from NH in time to uphold my teaching responsibilities (dang professional ethics). So I'm going to be part of the "perfect storm" (*GROAN* Who let them use that?).

So, you heard it here first. If Dean loses the primary, I take full responsibility.

blah blah politics theres more to it than i wrote but it would take much explanation
