Sixty-two years...

I don't know what it's like to know anyone for that long... let alone, love them and be in love with them for sixty-two years.

This morning, Grandpa held Grandma's hand and told her that it was okay to go now. He told her that he loved her very much. He told her that he would be with her again soon...

She took a turn for the worse immediately after that. She's still here, but barely. We expect the end to come at any moment. As they all (Grandma, with Grandpa by her side and their two children sharing a small sleeper sofa) lay asleep in the hospice room here at the hospital, Grandpa has started showing signs of congestive heart failure again...

Grandma is ready to go. Grandpa is getting ready to follow.

I sit by the door, guarding them from the pokes and prods of medical staff who are clueless about what it all means. Who cares what the blood pressure is at this point? Unless they are here to administer morphine, they don't get past me.

I want her to go in peace... no more pain... no more suffering.

Please, let it all end soon........................
