Funny how in the medium that it is the easiest to lie in, we expect people to be the most honest.

I was thinking about this today. Probably a solid 50% of what I say to other people is at best a half truth.

The "Thank-you" 's and the "You're Welcome" 's. And yet our society would stop working without them. Another example would be walking past the pan handler on the street knowing full well that you have 50 cents in your pocket.

The more important question would be; if we are lying to others that much. How much are we lying to ourselves?
superdee:
I'm little confused, is saying "Thank you" a lie? These are simple exchanges, as you have described. Really they are nothing more than that. There is no promise nor expectation thus really no chance to deceive.

Often people lie in an effort to get ahead or to avoid - at some point many of us grow values and lying just becomes not an option. It's interesting to be around a group of people where this has not taken place as there are some very silly exchanges... often these people are so wrapped up in their tails that no one ever notices what's going on.

The really scarry ones are those who are aware of how the world works, what the basic person's values are and uses that information to control. There is nothing I hate more than a hustler, particularly the ones who work the streets. I give money to the poor all the time but I take pride in thinking that I see through some of the bull shit on the streets and try and give to those who really need. Walking past someone looking for change when I know full well that it's a game is not a lie, it's living my truth - right or not.
