These Second Amendment fetishists crack me up, they really do.

The other day I was listening to an informative piece on NPR about Ballistics Fingerprinting (a term ballistic scientists loathe, btw) and the idea of establishing a national database of such "fingerprints," which are really very unique, much like actual fingertips and DNA. Naturally a caller from FL phoned in his objection which basically boiled down to the tired old argument that those wily criminals can change a gun's barrel and interior to thwart such a measure, and thus the implication that such a database would only contain law-abiding citizens' data, and would be no use in combating crimimal behavior.

It just seems like that old fucking tired argument again that if we outlawed guns criminals would still have access to them. Granted, yes, I suppose guns would be acquired illegally, much as they already are. But I so hate this defeatist attitude they profess to have: "Oh, can't do a thing against the criminal mind, might as well not even try," this argument from the same people who normally wet themselves laughing at The Dumbest Criminal stories.

Seems we can't have it both ways, conservatives, so which is it? Criminals are evil masterminds of planning, or they're genetically inferior laughable imbeciles... Why do these gun nuts fight tooth and nail any attempt to staunch the flow of blood in this murderous country???

Well?
