Everything always gets better and everything happens for a reason. Maybe the demotion will mean a different, better suited opportunity comes up soon?
As for photoshoots; just because things aren't going well relationship-wise, it has no baring on you and how you look, and shouldn't effect your confidence. you're gorgeous, and should be happily posing away to show that ex-boy of yours what he's definately missing out on.

I think it's a great effort. As a wannabe photographer myself, the best advice I ever got went something like this: don't fall into the trap of over-analysing your work. Just keep shooting and you'll just get better and better.
