well, school is back in full swing, which means i hardly have any time to spend around here.
my internship is great, although a little slow sometimes. it's frustrating being where i want to eventually work, but not have the authority to institute change like i want to. i am planning to challenge the school's policy about prom- it's described as a "traditional date dance", and students can only attend if they have a male date (it's an all-girl school). it supports the rampant homophobia in the school, and if there's anything i do while i'm there, i hope that changing this rule is it.
my classes this quarter are great- creating art, understanding music, and feminist theories w/ one of the best teachers i've ever had. i have to start thinking about what i'm doing my women's studies thesis on, and i think that sex ed in high schools will be my topic. this feminist theories class is 1 of 3 classes to prepare me for my thesis, and i'm doing a group project on sex ed. i figure this will let me see if it's a topic i should pursue. i also figure i can get raw data by surveying the girls at my high school, as long as i'm doing my internship there. i was scared of this thesis at first, but now i'm excited to work on it. hopefully it won't consume all my time and make my last quarter of my undergraduate career hell.
sorry to everyone if i'm quiet between now and thanksgiving, but i've got a lot on my plate this quarter. it makes me feel like a productive social being, but it doesnt leave much time to play.

i'm a big fan of the south side too .... it's a bit far from some of the stuff i like to do up north sometimes - especially since i don't have a car - but i really dig it down here. hyde park - where i hang my hat - is a really swank place.
re: what you're reading for your feminism class - it sounds really interesting. nature vs. nurture is always a fun - if bit overdone - debate. butler is really interesting - flawed - but totally mind blowing. but she is SO dense. that is actually something that really bugs me about academic writing at times: the pieces are put together so badly at times. it frustrates me - it's the kind of thing i SO try to avoid in my own work.
