Dear Americans, I beg you to please see this is what more guns for self-defense looks like. Larger supply and easier access does not end domestic attacks sooner, it simply offers a breeding ground to create more deadly situations. The shooter was brought down by armed civilians although while that should support the argument for guns they were too late. The gunman killed 26 and wounded 19 with an assault rifle that should have been much tougher to acquire for a person with a history of deranged behaviours including a dishonourable discharge. The idea that they exist so plentifully for domestic defense against terrorism quickly begins to lose its foundation when the attacks are predominantly committed by mentally ill white American men. Not by Russian or Chinese spies, not by North Korean or Middle Eastern; just your everyday, average American who fell through the cracks. Descending into mental illnesses while lacking the support system they need for a chance to recover, they develop into these twisted monsters with no shortage of local armories. Access not just to pistols and hunting rifles, but fully automatic weapons and an array of tactical equipment that was never intended for civilian applications.
I know this is a sensitive subject and I'm truly sorry to anyone I've offended. The reality is that our time right now, it seems to feel as if every time you look to a news source it's a devastating tragedy. Many of these have been weather but far too many are preventable disasters wiping out innocents for the sake of madness. I'm so fucking sick of it and there is absolutely no way this is a sentiment unique to me.
