We're so backwards 😒

Can anyone explain to me why it is that we are in the second half of 2017 and yet social perception remains that wanting to help people equates to one being weak and needy??

Why is it more socially respectable to succumb to the crushing weight of life's negativities and to callous oneself to the point of hating everything and everyone, than it is to resist that same weight and to pursue building up those around you through love and hope?

Why is wanting to spare a fellow human from the depths of pain and depression still perceived as such a weakness?

Why is the willingness to step on others to impose one's will or chase selfish pursuits considered a strength?

In my experience, usually those that try the hardest to reach out and help others, to build people up, are the ones who suffer trapped inside their own minds. They understand what it means to loathe oneself, to hate themselves more than anyone else could ever despise them. They know what it is to lay awake at night just wishing they had never existed. They are all too familiar with the despair that doubt so enjoys engulfing them in.

And yet the ones who manage to fight back, to lift this crushing weight and rise above it so they can reach out to try and spare any within their grasp from the same anguish, are the weak?

Am I crazy or is this as what the fuck backwards as it gets?
