i was out riding my road bike all day, so at about 4,
i put it up on the roofrack and went to hang out with
my friends before going to see "in my country". well,
on the way to dinner, some guy pulled up next to me
and asked if i had had a bike on my rack. i kind of
laughed and said "yeah". then he told me it had fallen
off about a mile back. i still thought he was joking,
so i stuck my head out the window. no bike. at this
point i am flipping out, because my bike is my main
mode of transportation in the spring, summer and fall.
so i quickly turn around and go back the other way on
the highway, only to find a cop putting the mangled
corpse of my precious racing bicycle(an aluminum
cannondale) into his car. i managed to flag him down,
and he told me that he saw the bike on the side of the
road, and thought "hmmm...this looks like a nice bike.
someone will probably come looking for it." so he
hands me my baby, now a limited "gashed frame" edition
r900. i wanted to cry. this bike had seen everything
from the streets of new brunswick to the farmlands of
south jersey to a triathlon in upstate new york. it
was like an extension of my body, my second set of
legs. now it was nothing but a mangled piece of
aluminum destined for the afterlife of infinite
artistic possibilities. my firebreathing dragon had
been quenched by a loose bolt in a faulty clamp.
visions of jamaican bobsleds ran through my head and
all i could hear was "hey sanka, ya dead mon?". my
shaky response: "ya mon". my fate now rested in the
hands of the warranty department of saris, the maker
of the faulty part. will the forces of justice
prevail, providing me with a new fiery red blockade
runner? or will i become another statistic, short 1500
dollar bills and the love of my life? there are two
things which are key to my survival, and those are my
camera and my bicycle. all else is completely trivial,
of absolutely no consequence whatsoever in terms of
the universal plan. so will i be forced to live a
partial existence? who knows? not even God could know
a thing like that.

RIP Loose Cannon. you will be sorely missed frown
evolution:
Many people don't understand the connection one can have with an inanimate material object. Maybe its because they never have experienced a true bond. Maybe its because they feel they have an adequate connection with another person.

I think they're just crazy.

haha, i love my friends more than anything else in the world. my bike was my escape plan. if i was feeling like shit, all i had to do was hop on the beast and ride til i collapsed. its a good way to relieve stress tongue
