so yeah, goodwill helped me reaffirm my preconceived idea that duke ellington is, if not the chief executive shit, then perhaps one of the executive vice shits. for the low low cost of 2 pieces of fabric emblazoned with the face of george washington, the great founder of this country, i was able to aquire a record produced by the great founder of all that is musical awesomeness. they had a copy of duke ellington's jazz violin sessions, which happens to be fucking spectumazing. its almost as if you could take every cool thing that anyone has ever done, bottle it up, and it would spontaneously create this album. it takes the classic swing of the duke, then adds in the violins of stephane grappelli and ray nance, the viola of svend asmussen, ernie shepard on bass, and sam woodyard on drums. ray nance himself looked back on it and remembered it being "a lot of fun". i definitely agree. this album is truly a force to be reckoned with. if you are lucky enough to find this, i would recommend buying it regardless of the price. it will open your eyes and make you think "what the hell is this garbage that people call music today?" but don't take my word for it. see for yourself, and form your own pitiful opions.
