It wouldn't be the first time someone has gone from being a behind the scenes Doctor Who hero to villain. I do think near the end of his tenure he did occasionally need an editor, but that shouldn't takeaway from the fact he wrote some cracking scripts and did help pull of the impossible and bring it back.
