"it's too hard"
envision a world where you work at something pretty damned hard. its difficult in fact. not a lot of people do it because it takes a helluva lot of time. ever work 72 hours in a row? three 72 hour shifts with a few hours to 'sleep' and shower inbetween? how about 100 hour weeks back to back to back to back?
yeah - that kind of time.
if you ever hear the word 'milestone' or 'deadline' the you know what i mean. its about work getting done to a schedule that is unchanging, unrelenting and unstoppable. the problem is - the work is *subjective* - its all about creating 'art' - so when you say 'POW' the client thinks "BANG" and the audience sees 'KABLOOIE' and the accountant thinks 'pop'...
yeah. pop.
in otherwords - you never get paid enough to figure out what you have to do, because what you see in your head and agree to create might not be the same as what the guy charging you out for envisions in HIS head, or the guy paying might see something totally different...
okay - so its a bitch. its fucking hard, its nerve-wracking, heart-wrenching, soul-destroying, life-enhancing, really fun shit that you do.
it is fucking awesome.
why else would you work in an industry where people can throw phones at you and scream at you and its acceptable? where else can you give up your family, friends, and work until you are sick and STILL get a phone thrown at you?
okay - its got its positives. like i its awesome. fuckig awesome.
it gets you girls.
um. well, some people get girls.
you might even get famous.
um, well, maybe.
you could get rich.
yeah. right.
...but thats not why you do it. you do it because you are creating 'the' shit. you are making stuff up that is in YOUR head and turning that into reality. its the ultimate in contemporary artistic creation - at least from your POV.
and you know what? you are at the top of the mountain. you work at the pinnacle of the industry in a room standing beside giants wondering 'how the fuck did *i* get here?"
THAT is what this is about. the hours, the torment, the hate the love the adrenalin - it comes down to those few minutes at the end and respect from your peers and those frames that blissfully speed by enthralling children and people you dont know.
it's fucking awesome.
so here's the situation: its hard. it sucks. its awesome. i love it. and im sick and tired of only ONE thing:
folks that cant take it.
you know the type. the complainers who whine about every change, about working late about how 'hard' it all is..
so here is the deal i make: if you dont like it - get the fuck out.
OR
..at least shut the fuck up. suck it in, stop complaining, put on a smile and go and rant with your friends over a beer later - just dont stand in front of me and say 'its too hard'
..because if you do, then you just suck and i will laugh at you.
laugh. at. you.
'it's too hard'
give me a fucking break.
