To Louisiana and back...
My brother and I got up at the buttcrack of dawn on Saturday. 345am. Hopped in the truck and got going. We were towing a car dolly behind it and we had brought 30 gallons of gas in 5 gal gas cans. I was offered a 9mm to take with me. I thought about it for a few and then decided it would be a super bad idea. (I had been told of rumors of people being car jacked for their gas.) We drove and drove forever it seemed. We took I-20 east from ft worth into Louisiana. After Monroe Louisiana we saw huge lines to buy gas and gas stations that were just plain out of gas. Took a right at Jackson, Mississippi and got on 55 and took that into Mandeville. We saw lots of downed trees but not much house damage. Most of the really bad stuff happened about 50 miles east of our final destination. Mandeville is on the north side of Lake Pontchartrain and about 50 miles north of New Orleans. Most of the damage we saw was roof damage, missing shingles, downed trees. They were spared all the bad shit. They did not have any power also. So we loaded up all the stuff from the apartment and loaded up the honda on the car dolly. I used about 15 gallons of gas and MOST of it even got in the tank, I spilled a whole bunch. Yummy. Took an ice cold shower in their dark bathroom and got back on the road. We went back the way we came since we knew the roads were clear. One thing that we saw on both legs of the trip were convoys of military vehicles, power company vehicles, dish network trucks, police cars, busses of all kinds, ambulances, mobile water treatment trucks, trucks loaded with chainsaws, some boats. People are coming from all over the country with whatever they have that can be helpful. Anyways, we got going and decided that we couldn't make it all the way home with out getting some sleep. About 1130 PM we pulled into a hotel in Longview, Texas. We were gonna stay in Shreveport but every hotel we called was filled. Got some sleep, woke up and drove the rest of the way home. One fucked up thing about this trip: gas was cheaper in Louisiana.. We paid $2.54 a gallon in Monroe. It COULD have somehting to do with the gas pipelines, but whatever.
variety:
Sounds like a trip where your faith in humanity could have been restored. I mean, to see all those people helping.

Sadly, I've never seen more than the first 15 minutes of Incredibles, as the only times I've tried watching it have been with a 3yr old.
