I have decided to clean up my SG "Following" list. Going back to January 1st, 2023, I am reviewing the hundreds of greetings I have sent to models, hopefuls, admin, members, and photographers. With each one, I am going to that person's profile and seeing their activity: posts and frequency, comments, if they like peoples' comments, how full their stats are, etc. Obviously some folks have left, and others are going through tough times (and hopefully left a message to that effect on their profile). If I find weak or non-existent presence, I am liking the last posts they made and then unfollowing. If they are people I still somewhat interact with and are strong within the community, they are getting likes on all their missed posts and a "Happy New Year" from me as a thank you for being involved here.
This may seem harsh. I have come to realize that this is a community and it is important to me to lend support to those who put in effort more than to those who do the bare minimum (or less!). I am not leaving any snarky messages or even making a big issue of it, I'm removing my support quietly and moving on. I want the energy and focus and time to put towards the folks here who really are trying and working at it. To those of you who that describes, thank you. Thank you for caring about this community and site and the people within. You are what makes me come back every day, and I hope I can get back to doing more regular posts again.
Because this is taking me a long time to do, there are some folks I owe responses to. Those responses are coming, I promise. I've been at this for many hours and am just about done to May (and I'm following 200 less people now). When I finally get to the modern messages, I will absolutely be responding. I may be a bit burnt out, but I will be present.
When I recover from this task, I will be going back and doing the same with all the older messages. This will become a yearly thing, and I have a starting point now to make it quicker and easier.
I am not angry or hateful towards anyone, and I will gladly follow and support again if someone comes back and puts in effort. I'm certain to be making bad choices or mistakes; I'm human. This is in no way me making ultimatums or threats. But I wanted to share this information with everyone, especially those who are in the same spot I am, with too many things to focus on and getting overwhelmed on this site.
