Only a few days ago I discovered that my beautiful friend @milenamaria passed away. It broke my heart to have read of her passing, and I wish I had been checking SG more frequently. She wasn't very active on SG the last while, so it was common for her to go silent for long stretches. I went to her profile to send her a message, when I saw the last post from August 19th that read:

"Dziękuję za wsparcie Mileny ale muszę Wam powiedzieć, że wczoraj odeszła niech Bóg ma ją w swojej opiece i Was też"

Which roughly translates from Polish to English as "Thank you for supporting Milena, but I must tell you that she passed away yesterday, may God watch over her and you too"

I stared at the screen and thought it was a trick or something. Quickly browsing comments, I saw a comment from her account a week later: "Dla nas też jest to smutne i trudne, nie chcemy podawać szczegółów, ale wiemy, że Wasi obserwujący powinni o tym wiedzieć." - "It is also sad and difficult for us, we do not want to provide details, but we know that her followers should know about it."

My mind raced about what could have happened to her and how we could lose this amazing 28 year old woman so damn early. She was destined for great things and many more years and it shook me to know she was gone. It took me days to work through how it made me feel and I'm just now making this blog about my friend, tears finally coming to accompany my words here.

I wish I had known her better. I wish her and I were better friends. I wish I could have met her in person, Canada to Poland. I wish that somehow I could have had sightline to whatever happened to her and been able to help. But all I can do now is let you in on who she was as a person.

Milena became a Hopeful here on SG on November 18th, 2020 and it was a dream come true for her. She had some truly beautiful photos, but she was more than that. She was an aspiring photographer, a fighter that sided with Ukraine and tried to help the people fleeing the war, and a mother of a beautiful daughter who I believe is now 7 years old.

She loved languages and could speak Polish and English fluently, knew some Russian, and was learning Spanish. Her next goal was to learn Italian.

Besides being a mom who loved and protected her daughter fully and deeply, she also had 2 cats she adored.

I cannot begin to reflect to you how beautiful she was, inside and out. She always brought a smile to my face and made me feel like a welcome friend and we are so much worse off in this world without her.

Her father, who passed away years ago, loved music, including INXS. This is how Milena and I became friends, was through talking about INXS. She spoke of how she wished her Dad could have met her Daughter. Her favourite musician was Weronika Juszczak, and she constantly shared songs from her.
