The LA film festival has ended yesterday. It was fun and I'm always a bit sad when a festival is over, even though it was pretty tough to survive such a weird schedule for 2 weeks. Now the real work--writing--starts.

I saw a lot of films and my favorites remain Jim Jarmush's Broken Flowers, Gus Van Sant's Last Days as well as You, Me and Everyone We Know. I must howver say that if you didn't like Gus Van Sant's Gerry, you might have a hard time with Last Days, which is in the same naturalistic mood and extremely slow.

I was a bit disappointed with Wong Kar Wai 2046--the sequel to In the Mood for Love, which I thought dragged, mostly because of the sci-fi sub-plot. November was also interesting, mostly as a visual and narrative exercise.

I met a few interesting people--directors and actresses--, spent a lot of time in the lounge and at various parties and I must admit I'm always amused by the "poser circus" -- actors trying to be discovered and checking everybody's passes. A few interesting things happened to me, which sound pretty good for what I have in mind. Image is everything in Hollywood, and if you play it as a Marketing tool, it can work well to your advantage.

Even though, I was looking forward to see Gus Van Sant's film on Friday night, it was a tough choice as Autolux had a free show that night while Richard Fearless was DJing at Amoeba. But I'll see Autolux opening for NIN anyway and will catch Death In Vegas next time.

I planned my vacation and then invited my friends. I was worried they would flake, so I decided to go it on my own. About two weeks later they decided they would go too wink

Sounds like you've had a busy couple weeks with the festival...

how much will you have to write about this? smile

how many pages of the magazine will be filled up by the LA film fest? just curious...

over here, the "gods of metal" festival takes 6 pages (out of 72) of the mag tongue
