My membership lapsed for 12 hours -- dang expired credit cards.
I'm back in the hood now for the next year at least....

I stayed up late last night and took a big handful of various supplements right after a late night snack of a Jumbo Jack with fries.
Normally I can't stand Jack in the Box and most other fast food places in general, but I was hungry and there was no food in the fridge. I'd had mexican fast food nearly every day the last week and was burnt out on it.
Anyway, here's what I took:

  • 4 x 1000mg of crystalline vitamin C
  • 4 x 500mg of vitamin C w/ bioflavanoids (non-chewable tablets, chewed up)
  • 1 x 25mg pycnogenol
  • 4 x 600mg cayenne pepper
  • 3 x 1200mg lecithin
  • 1 x 60mg ginko biloba

I wanted to counteract the junk food effect. It worked pretty well actually. It was all smooth sailing on the digestive seas.

Part of all that was an anti-oxidant retalliation on the late night fast food, part of it was for treating this tough cough I've had.

On thanksgiving day my dad first gave me this supplement combo for the cough: pynogenol, vitamin A and cayenne pepper.
The pycnogenol is a powerful anti-oxidant that comes from pine bark or something. Cayenne is just the regular hot pepper.

So the day after thanksgiving after taking this first thing in the morning I coughed up stubborn hard to cough up phlegm. (yeah I know "too much information"... it's medical science though) It was almost stringy like they were clogging up my bronchial tubes or something. It makes sense since for about two weeks after my initial bronchitis went away I was a clear phlegm coughing machine. Whenever I'd laugh, or breathe in cold air, it would immediately put me in a coughing fit.
After that morning that went away though. So those have definitely been added to my list of supplements that do something. I'm not sure which one caused it, or if it was all three in combination.
I've been taking it ever since and my cough is going away now.

I get effects from gingko biloba too. It tends to makes my dreams more vivid. It's supposed to help tittinus (ringing of the ears) also.
I'm not sure how, either from the gingko or just not being exposed to extremely loud music in several years, but that's pretty much gone also.
Another effect I'd get from gingko is that pretty much random memories will spontaneously kind of bubble up from nowhere.
I'll suddenly vividly remember something like the industrial arts classroom door in seventh grade, or something else that seems pretty much random but otherwise previously unavailable from the memory banks.

The lecithin is a new one too. It's a fat emulsifier -- it helps break up and dissolve fat. I figure that's a good thing after eating french fries. It's good for the brain and nerves also.
The vitamin C is my old stand-by anti-oxidant. I figure it should go after all those fast food free radicals.

So this is ending up being a rambling supplement post....

I used to sometimes take omega oil supplements (fish oil basically).
They did something but not I'm sure why. Basically I'd get into this strange depressed funk after taking them. I'd still take them on the idea that maybe there's something in my system that needs to be worked out. These are naturally occuring substances that your body needs after all. They're supposed to have the opposite effect if anything. I never took it long enough to see any real positive effects. The strange thing is I'd still take it with almost this perverse curiousity in seeing how it would make me feel, depressed or not.
I guess you could say it's an emo supplement...

This latest pycnogenol, cayenne, vitamin A combo does seem to put me in a really good mood. At least most mornings this week I wake up feeling great, so something is going right.

My dad's really into supplements. When you get older and you've done lots of heavy drug and alcohol abuse the previous 30 years you have to start finding things to take to get healthier.
Myself I first really got into them when there was a brief "smart drug" kind of thing going on in the early 90s. Then also for weight lifting I was kind of into them for that.

If you want to ever go into a really pumped up rage take a whole bunch of yohimbe. In college I used to down eyedroppers full of the stuff when going out drinking sometimes and it'd make me go berserk.
One time me and my roomate took it before going to work out.
He ended up losing his wallet for a while and he went into a complete rage throwing things around and yelling. It really makes you all pumped up, almost like you're on speed or something.
So I guess you could classify that more as a quasi-drug, or quasi-steroid, rather than a really healthy supplement. Don't give it to your grandma.

Anway, enough with the supplement talk already...

I got stuff to do, but it's raining and I feel incredibly lazy.

god, since i have been out here i have noticed my dependence on the american way... everything FAST. it's so bizarre how i find everything to be horribly inconvenient out here because i have to go a little out of the way or put a little extra effort into finding something, etc.. when i get home i am not going to eat fast food no matter what. NONE!
