If youve already read this in my journal, umm...you get to read it twice.
I implore you to read THIS. Schuyler is the lovely daughter of my dear friend Rob. We've been there when the dear girl was born. We were there when she was first diagnosed with "something" being wrong and we were there when that "something" turned out to be CBPS.
After a rather disheartening trip to chicago this January, Rob and Julie started to look to other options to help their daughter develop into someone who could at least figure out some way to have something of a normal life, or as normal as this sweetheart can have.
It was just a few short weeks ago when Rob came to us with the news that there might be a device that will give his daughter a way to communicate. At first he found a device that seemed to be what she needed but upon further investigation, it would be way to limiting. Finally, a device Schyuler can use throughout her life and use to express herself in the ways you and I take for granted was found.
Thats the good news.
The bad news? It's expensive. Nearly $8,000. Plus tax. And waranty. Add that all up and we're at the $10,000 mark.
The worse news? Insurance wont pay a dime for it. In spite of working for a large company who's name shall remain nameless but they sell books and their name has a B and an N in it, health insurance won't help them out at all.
It takes a village, people. If you are able to help at all, I beg you, please do. A dollar. Anything. Every little bit helps.
And I can promise you that Rob is not someone trying to scam people. I've spent time with Schuyler. She is loving and giggly and is facinated by my blue toenail polish. She deserves a voice.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask me. I understand that there are some pretty shady people on the internet who have scammed folks for some non existant sick kid. I promise you this is not the case.
And if some woman can get her boob job paid for because of the internet, I figure a 5 year old girl here in Austin can get the medical device she rightly should have.
Cross post this where you see fit. It would mean the world to me.
And if you live in Austin, the first weekend my bakery is open (which should be in a few weeks), part of the profits will go to Schuyler, so that is another way you can help.
Thanking you in advance,
Stephanie
