I haven't really been busy but I guess some stuff has happened in the last month.

I celebrated my 27th birthday by driving up to Edmonton to visit my best friend and his wife who had a baby a few days earlier. I held a five day old baby girl. I didn't drop her and I was not puked on. Visit number one was a total success.

However, two days after getting back my car broke down in the middle of delivering a pizza. The timing belt broke and I had to borrow my parents' car (and money) until it could be repaired. That was a seriously depressing way to start year 27.

Thankfully it looks like I will be cutting my hours to a minimum. I got a new job with a local recycling company. I drive around in a big truck picking up bins of paper, cans and compost from offices and restaurants. It is dirty, physical work. It requires me to wake up far earlier than I really like. I've only done it three days and my body is pretty sore. I haven't done a lot of physical activity lately (the past two years) so it takes getting used to. But I will have some of my evenings free again. Just in time for hockey season. I will also cut down on how much I have to spend on gas and fixing my increasingly expensive car. I spent my Saturday hauling other people's junk and it was one of the more satisfying days of work I have had in a while.

I voted in Calgary's municipal election last week and the mayoral candidate I voted for actually won. That is a first for me. Being a progressive person in Alberta usually ends up with me voting with the losing side. It was a nice change.

I'm sure there was other stuff. See you in November I suppose.
