O.K., so I don't really have any good reason to keep a journal here, being that a. I'm lazy and will not be updating it frequently, b. really don't have that much free time to play on the internet, let alone post random musings about my life for most likely no one to read and c. for the most part, I have nothing particularly interesting to write. But, that said, the night before last was pretty entertaining. My girlfriend and I were on the couch, flipping through channels and about to call it a day when she turns to me and says, "I think there's a bat in here." I turned to her an said "did you just say there's a bat in here?" That's when the bat swooped down and sped past us. My girlfriend, the cats and I all sprung into action. She grabbed a towel, I grabbed the broom and opened the front door only to realize we'd lost track of the bat. We were checking room by room, watching the cats, to see if they spotted it and trying to figure out where the hell it went. Now , I have to say that our house has a cathedral ceiling in the living room and dining room which also extends to the entry way with dark wooden timbers across it in what I can only assume was someone's idea of an architectural "feature". Anyway, after about five minutes of searching and saying to each other, "do you see it? I don't see it" "No, I don't see it, where the hell could it have gone?" The bat dropped down off of one the rafters and started flying around the room again, this time with everyone in pursuit. Fact, bats are very fast, bats are not only fast, but if you've ever sat and watched them, then you know bats are also very, very agile as well. I say this because these two traits , combined with the capability for flight makes it very difficult to try and herd a bat in any direction, let alone get it to go out a door. The task is not made any easier when half of the bat herding team is hitting the other half with the towel when trying to help. It would have been a hysterically funny sight from outside I imagine, me, with a broom in hand arms up and waiving, jumping up and down for more height, her with a bath towel being flung upwards, usually landing on me and our one female cat levitating upwards six to eight feet as if in a kung fu movie, all four fuzzy feet of fury trying to counter our efforts and prevent escape. I am happy to report that the bat did finally get out the door, most likely because it had had enough excitement for one night and not because of anything we did. We laughed all the way to bed. The cat was quite disappointed however.
