I had four kittens in my yard and they totally disappeared. I thought that the pound picked them up or someone stole them. They have been missing for two days. Today I looked out my bathroom window and there they were! What the heck?! I guess the aliens got sick of them and threw 'em back. Hey, it could happen.

if they're feral, they may be just wandering away from the "nest" while mom is out hunting for food. when mom comes back, she would round 'em up (by the nape of the neck) and take them home.
until she goes out hunting again....
