I understand what you mean about the squirrels thing. There really have been people here who have gotten clocked by a car because they just step into the street. Partial blame can be placed on the rules aorund the University that the cars HAVE to yield if people are in a crosswalk and there are foreigners who don't get that so they think cars HAVE to yield no matter what ; but they are not the maority of the people who step out into oncoming traffic.
