My PSA:

Hello, Bostonians. Of all the terrorist bombings and attempted bombings that have taken place in the past two decades all over the world, how many of them involved small brightly lit and easily visible devices? Moreover, what is the maximum potential damage the signs used by AdultSwim could have caused? Considering their small size and that they were generally located either well above or away from traffic, even if they were filled with explosives they probably couldn't do much more damage than make a loud noise and leave a mark on the nearby concrete. Terrorists use things like backpacks not only because they blend in well, but also because that's the minimum amount of explosives needed to hurt multiple people in very close range - much closer than most or all of these lighted signs. In contrast, since this story broke yesterday more than 100 Americans have died in automobile accidents and you readily accept that without blinking an eye.

Thank you, Boston. You were right up there with Seattle, San Francisco and New York as far as places I want to live in. Now I know you're a bunch of fucking morons. Hopefully you'll some day become self-aware enough to realize that you've let the terrorists beat you.

I understand their initial reaction. If you're going to engage in a promotional stunt like that, don't put them on bridges fer chrissakes! But it was after they ascertained what the situation was still persisted in confiscating them all as evidence, rounding up suspects and throwing the book at them that's when things got ridiculous.

All told, it was still a pretty lame stunt. Especially in the wake of the MI:III incident.
