So this weekend didn't turn out at all the way anyone expected...

Due to the militant facism of the recent R.A.V.E. act, it seems that any and all events that have amplified music are considered dangerous to our peaceful nation and should be immediately shut down. Regardless of whether or not they are a rave, or simply a gathering of people in an artistic medium for a fundraiser event.

Unfortunately, I'm not even positive that we were shut down because of the RAVE act, there are so many different rumors and speculation flying around that its impossible to get a straight answer from anyone.

We arrived at Site 1 (you'll understand my necessity for a numerical system shortly) Friday afternoon at about 4PM, to be greeted by Ventura county sheriff trucks on the property, and helicopters circling the grounds. Fucking helicoptors! By about 7PM there was a police barricade set up on the road leading to the entrance to the land, not admitting anyone onto the property. Mind you, this is PRIVATE land that we're on, execpt the police have coerced the owner into signing a letter that we were all trespassing. We are then informed that if we are not off the property by noon the next day, we can all be arrested for trespassing and civil disobedience.

But we said fuck it, and had a great night anyway.

Saturday morning: Wake up, we pack up our camp, throw it in someone's trailer and get a ride to the campsite that everyone who didn't make it in the night before got redirected to (Site 2), and met up with all of our friends, including the beautiful and wonderful Anomaly. We get to this new spot, unload our gear (and for just two people, damn, do we have a lot of gear). We decide not to set up camp until we know exactly whats going on and if we're staying there. Shortly thereafter another group of cops show up, to tell us that we may not stay at this campground, they will not tolerate any sort of amplified music, and yet again we pack it up and move to another location.

Site 3: Is a beautiful mesa. We unload, set up camp, and then watch a tour bus drive in and set up huge sound system abotu 20 yards away from us, speakers facing our tent. Without words, we pick up our shit and move. Site 3 turned out pretty good though. It was dry desert (what else is there to camp in?), hotter than hell during the day, but good friends and family abounding. Sometime later, Anomaly showed up with a huge bucket of ice cream, and it was like a pack of vultures devouring a carcass. God Bless that woman, and all her Red Bits of mud-wrestling glory.

Saturday night was great though. Saturnalia put on a kick-ass performance (as usual), and we all had a really great time together, despite all the bullshit (oh, wait, did I mean to say BUSHIT) that took place the day before. Unfortunately, Clan Destino ate it big time on this, the event cost somewher between $8,000 - $10,000 to put on, and we had been hoping to recoup that expense from ticket sales, donations, etc. I'm now a bit concerned about how the RAVE act is going to effect Burning Man, guess we'll find out in 39 days.

ebmfreak:
Good question!

EBM stands for "Electronic Body Music" - somtimes mistakenly called "Electronic Beat Music"

In most circles its a term used to define styles of music made with Electronic instruments that follow the principals of NewWave / Synthpop.

New Order, Underworld, Assemblage23 - are a few good examples of EBM.

EBM carries with it that 80's sound.
