Ok, cool link time, and then I'll dish out about my date. wink

First off, can I just say... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Awesome.

Yeah, and furthermore, this is probably the most adorable thing I've ever seen.

And I want one of these in my room so bad, you don't even know. I could pull on a giant Arthur Cannon Doyle tome to open it! biggrin

Ok, I'm done. Promise.

Yeah, so on to my date. It was very... nice. I was freaking out all day because my room was a mess and I didn't want her to think I was a huge slobmonster, so I cleaned like a mofo. After I jumped out of the shower and had about 15 minutes before she was supposed to pick me up, she calls me and says, "Um, I'm pretty much ready now. Do you want me to come get you?" And I was like "NOOOOOO!"

Ok, I was a teeny bit smoother than that. I was like, "Actually, I'm running a little late, so could you get me in like 15 or 20 minutes?" I didn't really have time to pretty myself up too much, but I don't think she minded.

We went down to the mall just in time for the movie. I think we were both a little nervous to look at each other too much or brush too close. :-P

After the movie, we decided to walk across the street from the mall and get a bite to eat at a local brewhouse. I had never been there, but it was good. We talked all through dinner, getting to know each other more. She's pretty quiet and keeps to herself, so I was happy that she was openning up to me a little.

After dinner, I pointed out a weird peaked glass structure on the sidewalk and said, "I don't have my glasses on. Is that a greenhouse?" And she said, "No, it's a skylight. You've never been down there? Come on, I'll show you." Turns out it was more like a bridge than a regular sidewalk, and there was this nice area to walk underneath, and it led to the edge of the river in downtown Providence. We walked all along the edge and talked about geeky things like the history behind various state mottos. (She pointed out that Rhode Island's is particularly lovely. I wasn't familiar with it, so we walked all around until she found a carving of the state logo to show me. In case you don't know, the entire state motto is, "Hope.")

Then we started walking back to the mall parking lot to go home, and she was telling me about how she hasn't been to the mall in forever, because her ex-girlfriend works at the Apple store, and they don't really talk. This put up a little bit of a red flag for me, because I don't particularly want to be caught in any ex-girlfriend drama, so I asked how long ago they had split up. "January."

Ok, six months. That's not bad at all. Then I asked how long they had dated.

"Five years."

...

Yeah. So there's that. Appartently she had also proposed to this ex-girlfriend (who accepted) sometime around Halloween or Thankgiving-ish, and then broke up with her three months later.

Yeah.

I mean, I'm ok with it if she is, but they way she talked about it, it seems like she's still harboring a lot of guilt over the whole thing. I'd like to see her again, though, but I feel like I have to take little baby steps. She's been out of the dating scene for five years, so if I'm going to pursue anything, it's going to have to go slow.

Hope. smile

OK - the tunnel from the basin to the area around Capital Grill/Raphael's/Union Station, under Memorial Blvd, where the 9/11 Memorial tiles are. Odd, I've always walked through at night, so I never noticed a skylight!

I'll look tonight during Waterfire. My friend Sierra hooked me up with a pass to the VIP tent again.

Great bumping into you last night at Foo Fest. Fantastic event! I did wander on to WaterFire - was supposed to meet Heidi, Lee and Cat (some friends) there - but kept missing each other. Heidi was never good at following a chain of thought.....

I looked up while passing the tiles - imagine that - a skylight blush
