Let me tell you about a man named In-Betweener.

In-Betweener in the perfect man, in many respects. He is respectful, open-minded, chivalrous, well-mannered, and full of love. In fact, In-Betweener is less like a man, and more like a guardian angel.

This becomes evident when he meets Girl. Girl is in a conundrum, because every man she meets whom she believes has potential takes a little piece of her. She sacrifices much to make them happy, and to try and gain their love, but every time she is discarded after she refuses to let them feed off of her anymore, to want to keep some things for herself, important things to her. Spirit broken, Girl falls, for what she fears is forever. And the men laugh as she falls.

But In-Betweener catches her. She is stunned. A giving man, who lets her keep what she has? Impossible. Yet there he is, nurturing her spirit and vibrant personality back to health. Girl loves In-Betweener... but something is missing. She has bled her whole life, from what men have taken. It doesn't feel right. Or real. The answer? In-Betweener must be after something.

A man, seeing Girl has recovered, calls to her. He has potential. hoping for the best, she finally discards In-Betweener, whom she now views as a crutch, in favor of the new man. He can become better, this man says. All he needs is a little piece of her...

So In-Betweener is alone again. He is lonely, true. He also hurts, for he gave a piece of himself to make her whole again. But he is sad for Girl as she locks herself into the same cycle again. And In-Betweener knows his place in life. In-Betweener cannot ignore any girl if she is falling. A true heart, a good heart, never can.

So In-Betweener goes on, still secure in himself and able to heal himself without aid. And if Girl falls again, he shall be there again. Guardian angels always are.
