i went to get sushi yesterday for lunch, and i found myself seated facing the most amazing baby with incredible blue eyes.
she was just laying there facing me, next to a couple who were having their lunch.
for the entire half hour following, except during brief interruptions when her parents twiddled her toes or something, she just stared at me with those amazing eyes.
stared and stared.
i love how babies can get away with staring. once you learn to walk, it starts to make people uncomfortable.
i was just reveling in the mingled honesty and joy of her undisguised interest and attention.
her sense of wonder at every brightly-colored bite i put in my mouth made the meal one of the best-tasting i ever had.
eventually, when i was done eating, i couldn't help smiling at her, still staring at me.
and a huge, matching smile spread across her face.
