And another weekend ends . Saturday was almost a complete waste for me , but it could have been much , much worse . I had a couple of friends come out to visit & was going to take them to my favorite Irish pub in Harrisburg . So we were on the PA turnpike , and maybe 16 miles from our exit . When we see a huge plume of black smoke up ahead of us . The 2 of us in the front of the car were both like " I hope that's not coming from the road " . Well , it was . There was a pile up that included a tandem tractor trailer & at least 2 other cars . Looking at the local news there were 2 fatalities & 4 injuries . Where does this leave us ? Stuck on the turnpike for 4 hours . They actually turned everyone around & had us drive back to the last exit to get off the highway . What a fucking nightmare .
Of course , it could have been much worse . If we were about 1 minute further down the road , it could have easily been us in the middle of that mess . I really didn't want to dwell on it at the time , but later I had a lot of maudlin thoughts going through my head . So anyway , I guess I'm counting my blessings rather then being pissed about being stuck in it .
And we did wind up going to a local German place that has very good food , nice beer & a guy playing music on a combo steel guitar / Casio keyboard who looked about 90 freaking years old That may have been worth all the aggravation in itself . At least the food & beer were quite good .
