I thought you might like to know that I saw Janis and Jimi in concert.  Not together but separately.  'Twas remarkable and memorable.

Sorry it took so long.  I was helping a friend who did the lights at various concerts.  Seemed like the ideal job after all he go to work with Janis, Jimi, The Doors, John Lennon and especially Paul McCartney and Wings tour USA!  So I went to help him light up a Janis concert at a college in New Jersey.  It was about 6 months or so till her death and she looked awful.  At that time her concerts took as long as it took her to fully drink a bottle of Southern Concert.  Backstage she pulled out her kit to shoot up her heroin.  She shot up under her tongue.  She was a mess.  But oh the magic of that show.  I can still hear and feel the girl inside trying to break her way out.  She was off key a bit until she took another swig of Southern Comfort and then hit her stride!  Until she needed another swig.  For most of the concert she was okay, living off her fame.  But there were moments that she transcended so much that even now, after 10,000 or so concerts (it feels like that) few have achieved and fewer still have overtaken.  What a tortured life.  What a brilliant singer.

Amy Winehouse was nothing at all compared to Janis.  Janis was in a class unto herself.
