On January 22, 1987 Bud Dwyer, the Treasurer form Pennsylvania, shot himself in the head with a .357 Magnum at a press conference regarding his corruption trial. Video played on live local TV, which happened to be in the afternoon of a snowday, which gave the act a much wider and younger audience.
