Weekend Update

Friday arrived in a blur and I realised that I needed to slow down. Went to see Sin City with the guys from work (yes, North American readers, please laugh - it has JUST opened here), which I enjoyed somewhat; stylistically beautiful and certainly true to the genre. Most of my criticisms would apply just as much to the graphic novels themselves, so there you are.

But this weekend is now about reverting to my hermit-like self. (When did I become someone who pretends to enjoy the hermetic life? I should look into that.) I took myself to the diner and sat for an hour over breakfast and coffee, reading a gift from Aspasia with a stupid grin on my face. Then I wandered across the river into Chelsea, did some long-overdue clothes shopping, browsed stores full of vaguely Asian wooden furniture which I cannot afford, and made my weekly pilgrimage to World's End Books. The week's stupidly-affordable haul:

The Autobiography of Alice B. Toklas, Gertrude Stein
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, Dave Eggers
The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, Thomas Kuhn
Casino Royale, Ian Fleming
The Naked Lunch, William Burroughs (1965 hardcover)
Generation X, Douglas Coupland
Le Médecin Malgré Lui, Molière (strange little 1895 pocket edition, couldn't resist)

(Yes, I am now purchasing books at a rate which greatly exceeds my ability to read them.)

Cripes, what a dull entry. Excitement and wonder tomorrow, perhaps. Maybe a laser light show. LOOK OUT.
