First, doesn't the color balance seem better on these photos than those that are posted? Maybe it's just me....

Beautifull shots but shot at about 3200 Kelvin with no adjustment it seems to me. But perhaps there is a taste for incandescent coloring rather than daylight balance... Check the originials at Rys' place.
The debate
Apparently Obama won on style points, McCain on debating points.
This of course Hillary Clinton already knows. It's the Nuremburg rally effect. And the Obama campaign knows it works for them. Only 57 million voters watched. A Friday night affair apparently constrained by network coverage limitations. WTF? Yes, I asked the same question. WTF. The political class needs to be changed. Sigh.
Michigan had an awesome comeback victory. I still need different pics.
I'm thinking about leaving what I do for the markets or photography. I'm proficient at what I do, but I'm not sure it's what I expected when I went to school. My friends connected to the markets are having all kinds of anxiety over the bailout, as both Republicans and Democrats try to avoid responsibility for what appears to be an unpopular solution. I should post the data on the Great Depression and a blurb on the commonly accepted explanation for it, the failure of monetary policy (the Fed) to step in and save banks - no in 1929, but in October 1930 when a slew of Midwest banks began to fail, pushed over by a bad crop among other things. 10,000 banks failed between 1929 and 1933. Unemployment was 3.4% in 1929 and had (only) risen to 8.9% by 1930. But it was 24.7% (1 in 4 out of work) by 1933. A friend's grandmother, he told me, said that only the force of Roosevelt's personality prevented a revolution in this country. The effects did not soon pass. By 1938, unemployment reached 19.7% again. I suppose it may not be a good time to change jobs or careers.
My own patriotic decision is should I spend money now, or save it, to generate, in my own small way, economic activity. I could use a new iPod (what kind should I get), still having the original one, that I bought in Palo Alto on the day that they came out on November 10, 2001. I'm told that that model is in the MOMA in NYC. Ha! And it still works. I use at work as a jukebox from time-to-time. Jukebox - ha! - another word that has essentially no meaning anymore.
I am pretty happy in general these days. Some things in the background, beyond my control, make me sad from time to time (family losses), but I recognize I am pretty lucky all around. It would be nice to meet someone, but I don't feel any pressing need. I should probably take a trip to Ann Arbor or Vegas to visit a friend. I would like the time away from work to take a long road trip. It's nice to feel self-confident enough that the opinions of others, generally, have little effect on my disposition. Makes one less risk averse - or appropriately attuned to the good and bad about risks that I might want to take. I wonder if others notice the sense of calm.
Sad that Paul Newman died. He was great in the Sting and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Who was the female lead in Butch Cassidy - she was amazingly stunning at the time. Quite unique. Katherine.... [?] A great actor, and a decent guy.
This is a hot pic. I wish the lighting had been better. The photographer could have done a better job.....but such are folks who only shoot with 35mm dig.... Oh I made some subtle changes to the pic to improve it a bit.
