What I learned this weekend

So, this weekend I had to work on Sunday, and that kind of pissed me off. For one, I only get my weekends off, for two, I don't fucking like to work on the weekends. But, I had one thing to keep me entertained when I wasn't doing work, that is the glory that is fan fiction.

Now, I can say that I'm a big fan of fan fiction, and I've found particular types of stories I like. So, I entertained myself by reading a story where Harry Potter is mentored by Severus Snape. A little background about me, I've loved the character Severus Snape since I read his introduction speech when I was but a young lad. And, now that I'm older, I can appreciate the true depth to him.

So I sat in the dirt these past few days, reading the dry, sarcastic wit of Snape, seeing plot holes from the actual series that made sense, things of that nature. And you know what, I realized something, I wasn't a nice person or pleasant at all. In fact, I could have been a nephew to the man if he existed.

I hate company, a lot. I like being alone to do my own work, to experiment and practice what I love. He was made fun of as a kid for his love of knowledge that wasn't entirely approved, and a lot of high school students didn't know. I love obscure things, dark things, odd things. Hell, I just like things. When you're a little bugger and you can quote shakespeare at lunch, and get made fun of for using one of the old words you have a page of definitions for it makes a young 'un feel down. So, I spent a lot of my free time in the library, reading about wars and times of great change in history. I would bring home backpacks full of fantasy novels, and journeyed to the misty mountain before many of my class mates could figure out how to work a choose your own adventure.

That's a large jump off topic, but I doubt you need me to describe Snape to you, I just thoroughly enjoy seeing him get fleshed out in fan fiction, and getting a better ending than he did. I might come back to this, but I'm all written out right now.
