Woo, I just found out Clancy Brown (aka. The Kurgan from Highlander) does the voice of Mr. Krabbs in Spongebob Squarepants. Talk about not being typecast.
Morgan's adoration of Nick Drake got me to finally listen to some of his stuff, and I was really impressed. I thought I already listened to all the greatest folk music of the 20th century, but I somehow overlooked Mr. Drake.
Yesterday I was talking to some friends about different styles of music, and what kinds they preferred. One answer I got a lot of was "I pretty much like everything, except for country." This bothered me, not so much because they didn't prefer country, but because they excluded it altogether. I mean, music is beautiful right? So country music is a form that defies some basic premise of what music good to an extent that it makes you suddenly not like the entire genre?
I think these people either legitimately don't like country, or they've never heard the Georgia Satellites, Willie Nelson, Gillian Welch, or Ryan Adams. Or, better yet, maybe they just have a bias against Southerners. ::shrug::
Anyhow, I haven't heard a form of music yet that didn't have merit. There is such thing as a bad artist, I think, but any genre, performed well, is just that : performed well. It's good, or fun, or danceable.
Do you have a dirty pleasure? That is to say, a song, genre, or artist you listen to that you wouldn't normally tell your friends about?

This is a dubious first post in your journal, but I like a Barbra Steisand song, "Ms. Marmelstein". I like a lot of Phil Collins. Some Billy Joel. Pop music n junk. "Dirrrty" by Aguilera. I used to like Britney Spears but now that seems just too much. Too wrong.
